Ice Ice Baby.

What can I say? I just love that song and it seems fitting to the temperature outside… ;)

I reached the middle of my Moleskine drawing book! And this is, how it looks like (click to enlarge):

Somebody to Love.

A few weeks ago some very dear friends of mine and I decided to give us an assignment every month. According to a “motto” everybody produces some kind of creative output. The first assignment was “The last book I read.”. So – here’s my solution for this lovely problem, a drawing that is dedicated to Arne Bellstorf comic novel “Baby’s in Black”. I wrote about it on this blog some time ago – it’s the lovestory between Stuart Sutcliff (brief member of the very early Beatles and gifted painter) and Astrid Kirchherr (a german photographer).  However, this is what I came up with. What do you think?

Something new for the Lovecat project – some kind of “logo” graphic for Mr. David Häring and his funky music! :) Check out Lovecat here.

There will be Valentine.

Valentine’s Day is more or less around the corner and so here is a little Valentine’s collection for everybody who needs a little bit inspiration and love:

New Illustration: If you weren’t you.

A friend of mine gave me this lovely idea, when he once said to me: “If you weren’t you – you would be a bear.” It’s a quote of a Janosch songtext and I think it’s marvellous.

For a dear friend, who likes cooking and spices, I made these bottles of flavoured oils and vinegar for his birthday. I also put stickers on every bottle with the names of the oils/vinegar and some illustrations of mine. It really turned out a nice present I think. Hopefully the flavoured oils also turn out great in some meals!

If you’re interested in the recipes, here they are:

  • Chili-Vanilla-Oil
  • Sage-Vinegar
  • Rosemary-Thyme-Oil (500 ml olive oil, 2 spoons dried rosemary, 2 spoons dried thyme, 2 spoons dried peppercorns)

Creative Wedding Invitations.

The last days I stumbled over a lot of wedding blogs – maybe it’s a coincidence, maybe it’s the two weddings I visit this summer. However – weddings are a big design topic in the end! Starting from colours that, together with maybe a motto build a central theme for almost anything – you also will like to have a good thought about your wedding invitations of choice. And there are more possibilities out there, than dull envelop-sized greeting-cards with your names on it! Here are some of my favourites:

First of all, this beautiful black & white invitation doodle by the artist Rudi de Wet. It’s so alive and I think gives a special personal touch to this invitations – all the little words and phrases, that stand for events in the couples live.

Next, this beautiful little invitations with handkerchiefs, that feature the directions for the wedding. I love the idea of giving your guests something they will keep much longer than a paper creeting card! Find more photos here in youngna’s Flickr stream.

Amanda Nistor (check out here blog Ruffled) made this lovely DIY wedding invitation postcards with beautiful vintage postcards and a stamp! It’s extremely simple and has so much charm – you must fall in love with it!

The next pick is my personal favorite: Wedding Tea Towels by Karen & Ben! The idea is amazingly brilliant, the designs are so cute and I can’t really think of a better way to bring your big day permanently in the homes and the hearts of your beloved ones! Check out their website, and read about Karen’s & Ben’s story!

Anne Benjamin, a Chicago illustrator, graphic designer and printmaker, is the founder and principal designer of MOK DUK. She make custom invitations, greeting cards and art prints and has a very great style. Find out for yourself and check out her amazing wedding invitation designs – or find out about my favourite pick here.

My last pick by Matt Dorfman (via The UnBride) stood out for me, because it features the story of the couple finding their love for each other in a very charming way.

So, as you see, there are dozens of new ways to design your wedding invitations and I think it’s a very special and interesting niche of design, because there is even more love in it than in other designs – but find out for yourself…

Klaus Voormann.

Lately I rediscovered the Beatles’ “Revolver” LP and with it’s beautiful music it’s amazing cover artwork. I always loved this cover especially – the fine lines, all black & white but so alive. I think, I can’t disguise, that my own work at least tries to be inspired by this great artist.

Above some of my favorite artworks by Mr. Klaus Voormann. If you like to find about more about the man, still known as the 5th Beatle, visit his website.

From this position I can see the whole place.

New day – new things to like out there!

First, and very personal pick are my shiny new red sunglasses I bought at Frequency festival last weekend. You got this kind of glasses every where on the festival area and so most of the kids were wearing them. And although they seem a little cheap and random – I totally fell in love! They remind me of the kind of sunglasses you wear as child and they have a perfect red color.

Secondly – Mr. James Murphy aka LCD Soundsystem! As you already might know, I saw LCD Soundsystem at Frequency festival, totally fell in love, now am proud owner of his last CD “This is Happening” and can’t stop dancing! Check out the website or maybe this lovely interview on NYMag.

“Keys Of Life” – I discovered the artworks of the amazing artist Dale Edwin Murray today on the web and can’t stop looking at them! They’re cheerful, colorful, simple and just hit the perfect place in ones heart! Go and visit Mr. Dale Edwin Murray’s website and see for yourself! It’s just perfect!

Last but not least: A new blog I discovered today which gives you for 365 days of the year 2010 one collection a day. I love collections and I wish I could have more collections myself without ending up in a complete mess – this blog offers inspiration every day, and my home stays (more or less) tidy!
